Mandel Program for Regional Leadership in Beer Sheva
The Mandel Program for Regional Leadership in Beer Sheva aims to train a group of high quality leaders who will work to significantly improve life in the Beer Sheva metropolitan area.
The fourth cohort of the program, which comprises one day of study per week over a period of two years, will begin its studies in the fall of 2019.
Program Goals
- To train outstanding leaders from Beer Sheva and its vicinity, with an emphasis on developing personal skills, creating and honing a values-oriented worldview, and reexamining the field of action
- To develop initiatives that are designed to improve life in the Beer Sheva region.
- To create and deepen the commonality between the various communities of the Negev
- To strengthen collaborations, ideas, and practical solidarity between graduates of the program.
Study Units
The program of study includes both theoretical and practical study, and combines group learning, personal guidance, guided tours and seminars. The course of study is based on four main components:

Values, worldview, and identity: In depth study of concepts, philosophical study of values and their meaning, exploring issues of identity, and formulating a worldview

Space and place: Exploring the characteristics and challenges of the place and space in which the fellows work, and exploring deep and complex aspects of Israeli reality from economic, social, historical and cultural perspectives.

Policy, government, and local government: Examining governance and its complexity, and acquiring "compasses" for the policy-making process.

Leadership and action: Research on competing types and models of leadership, theoretical and practical meetings with leaders, clarification of the concept of an "act of leadership" on the level of the individual, the community, and the place.
The program's practical component is designed to enable fellows to actually practice ways in which the ideas they develop can be translated into reality. Bridging the gap between theory and practice serves as a basis for both reflection and action.
Admissions Requirements
- A commitment to promoting Beer Sheva and the surrounding areas
- A desire to bring about social change
- Willingness to study and to change
- A bachelor's degree or the equivalent from a recognized institution of higher education
- Ability to commit to participating in all components of the program on a regular basis during the two-year program
General Information
- There is no tuition for participation in the program, which is sponsored in full by the Mandel Foundation–Israel.
- At the end of the program, participants who meet the program requirements will be awarded a certificate of graduation.
- Cohort 4 began studies in October 2019, and is meeting on Mondays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm for two years.
